Art Contests

SNAFU Con Art Contests!

SNAFU Con presents two different contests for artists to submit their work to. Artists may not submit work to both contests, so think carefully about which contest you feel most comfortable competing in before submitting.

Beginners Art Contest

This contest is for those who feel that they aren't quite up to professional standards yet. Entries will be judged largely on creativity and originality, rather than technical talent or precision.

For the Beginners Art Contest:
1st place: The Count of Monte Cristo – The Complete Series DVD
2nd place: Black Brothers – Chapter 1 DVD
3rd place: Emotional Graduation – Cosplay album with music CD

Contestants must be present at the convention to claim their winnings at the Artist Alley check-in table.

Advanced Art Contest

This contest is for those artists who have confidence in their skills and feel that they are nearly at professional levels, if not already there. Entries will be judged not only on creativity and originality, but also on how well the artist renders their subject and on their technical skill with their chosen medium.

For the Advanced Art Contest:
1st place: Pokemon Diamond – DS game
2nd place: Trinity Blood, Chapter 1 DVD
3rd place: Artistic in Black – Cosplay album with music CD

Contestants must be present at the con to claim their winnings at the Artist Alley check-in table.

Rules

  • One Entry per Person.
  • Entries may be B&W or Color and any medium is allowed.
  • Three dimensional artwork is allowed, but should be photographed artistically. Fuzzy cell-phone photos won't be disqualified, but presentation is very important and poorly photographed work will most likely not stand up well next to the competition.
  • Two dimensional artwork should be scanned or photographed and cropped in a high-quality manner. Just as for 3D artwork, any images poorly cropped and prepared won't be disqualified, but they also probably won't do very well in the contest. Take just a few moments and make sure that your entry looks good before you submit it.
  • Entries MUST be original work. Any art that is copied in whole or in part from another source will be disqualified. Stock photography may be used as a reference only with the permission of the photographer and must be credited.
  • Fan Art is allowed.
  • Submissions must be suitable for all ages.
  • Submissions must be no larger than 8" x 10" and no smaller than 4" x 6" and must be saved at 300dpi. We will accept most file formats, email if you have any concerns that your file format of choice might not be acceptable.

Entries will be judged by a panel of SNAFU Con official artists and the SNAFU Con art guests. Artists must be present at the convention to claim their prizes. The winners will be printed in the con book, all submissions will be on display in the Artists Alley at the convention.

Email your submissions to with the following form in the body of the email:
Real name:
Badge name:
Name of the artwork:
Any additional information: (include any other information you think we should know, such as whether or not you used any reference photos or which characters from what show you used if your drawing is a piece of fanart.)

We will NOT be accepting any entries at the convention this year, so be sure to email your submissions before the end of the day, August 7th. Any artwork received after this date will not be eligible for the contest.
